This is for all moms out there. Do you ever hear your child singing when playing with their toys? Have they ever made songs riding in the car. What if it’s a musical talent trying to come out? They’re using their vocal cords naturally. Maybe it’s them wanting to express themselves through their voice, singing. Singing can be very natural for children. We should encourage and nurture this.
Don’t wait until their first play or starting in choir to invest in voice lessons. At Metairie Music Academy we’ve it time and again these little clues pointing to how to express their natural music ability.
Be on the look out for some subtle signs your child has a desire to express their vocal and musical talent.
1. They can sing melodies easily
Does your child hear a song once or twice and starts singing it? All our children have different gifts. This is a sign to pay attention to moms. Voice training will help this gift grow and only build confidence. Think about the young singers that perform at Disney. Or it may just be pure fun for them to sing and make up their own songs.
2. Do they perform for you
Do they come running in the room and say, “Mommy, watch me”….and sing and act out a song for you? Do they ever sing at the dinner table? Do you hear them sing out at church? Or they want to be in a musical? All signs of a desire to be musical.
3. Do they ever imitate their favorite singer
I did all of the above. Do they imitate Disney singers? Do they have a favorite song they hear and then start belting it out and know every word of the song? Our kids will much of the time amaze us. We should be on the lookout for this raw talent. At Metairie Music Academy we have fun but teach all the necessary skills like breathing exercises, vocal agility exercises and singing their favorite songs with expression.
