Music Lessons in Metairie, LA: What Parents Need to Know Before Enrolling
By Sid · Metairie Music Academy · Metairie, Louisiana
If you have been searching for music lessons in Metairie, you have probably noticed there is no shortage of options. Big schools, small studios, online platforms, private tutors — the choices can feel overwhelming. So how do you find the right fit for your child, or for yourself?
This post is written to help you ask the right questions, understand what separates a great music school from an average one, and know what to expect when you walk through our door. We have been teaching music here in Metairie since 2010, and in that time we have seen firsthand what helps students thrive — and what gets in the way.
“The best music school is not the biggest one. It is the one where your child cannot wait to come back next week.” |
What to Look for in a Music School — Before You Spend a Dollar
Most parents make their decision based on price and location. Those things matter, but they are not what determine whether your child actually learns to play music. Before you enroll anywhere, here are the questions worth asking:
- Will my child have the same teacher every single week, or will it rotate?
- Does the school teach the songs my child actually wants to play, or only classical exercises?
- Is there a long-term contract, or is enrollment month-to-month?
- How does the teacher handle a student who wants to give up?
- Is there an opportunity to perform — recitals, showcases, anything?
These questions matter more than most families realize. Consistency with one teacher is especially critical for young learners. A child who builds a relationship with their instructor — who feels known, encouraged, and understood — will progress far faster than one who cycles through different teachers on a rotating schedule.
About Metairie Music Academy
Metairie Music Academy has been serving families in Metairie and across Jefferson Parish since 2010. Every student works directly with Sid in private, one-on-one lessons — the same teacher, every week, for as long as you are enrolled.
We are not a franchise. We are not a chain with rotating staff and corporate lesson plans. We are a local music school built around a simple belief: when a student connects with a great teacher and learns music they love, everything else follows.
Instruments We Teach
We offer private lessons in:
- Electric Guitar
- Acoustic Guitar
- Piano
- Voice and Singing
- Bass Guitar
- Performance Coaching
Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. We do not use a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Whether your child wants to play Taylor Swift on acoustic guitar, learn jazz piano, or develop their voice for a school musical — we build the lesson around that goal.
No Contracts. Ever.
Some music schools in the Metairie area require families to sign a six-month or twelve-month enrollment contract. For a child who has never taken a lesson in their life, that is a significant financial commitment before you even know if they will enjoy it.
At Metairie Music Academy, enrollment is strictly month-to-month. There is no contract. No cancellation fee. No pressure. If your schedule changes, if your child wants to take a break, or if life simply gets in the way — we work with you. We believe that families should stay because they want to, not because they are locked in.
Month-to-month enrollment. No long-term contracts. No cancellation fees. Just great lessons. |
Who We Teach
We welcome students of all ages and all experience levels. Many of our students are children between the ages of five and twelve — the age range when musical foundations are built most naturally. But we regularly teach teenagers, working adults, and retirees as well.
If you have spent years telling yourself you will learn guitar someday, or if your teenager is serious about developing real skills, or if your five-year-old cannot stop singing — we have a lesson that fits. There is no wrong age to start.
Our school is centrally located in Metairie and is convenient to families throughout Jefferson Parish, including Kenner, Elmwood, Harahan, and neighboring New Orleans communities.
Lesson Scheduling
We offer lessons six days a week, with morning, afternoon, and evening availability. Morning and midday slots are popular with homeschool families and adults. After-school and early evening times fill up fastest and are ideal for students on a traditional school schedule.
Each lesson is 30 or 60 minutes, held once per week. For young beginners, 30-minute lessons are almost always the right starting point — focused, productive, and just the right length for a child’s attention. Many students naturally move to 60-minute lessons as they advance and their goals become more ambitious.
Free Recitals — Included With Every Enrollment
Twice a year, Metairie Music Academy holds student recitals. There are no participation fees, no required costumes, no pressure. Every enrolled student is invited to perform in front of a supportive audience of fellow students and their families.
Parents consistently tell us that recitals are one of the most meaningful parts of the experience. Watching a child stand in front of a room and play a song they worked hard to learn — that is something they carry with them. It builds a kind of confidence that goes far beyond music.
For students who are not yet ready or simply prefer not to perform, there is never any obligation. Recitals are an opportunity, not a requirement.
Why Families in Metairie Choose Us
We are not the only music school in Metairie, and we know that. Here is what families tell us sets us apart:
- One teacher. Every lesson. No rotating staff.
- Month-to-month enrollment — no contracts.
- Lessons built around the music your child actually loves.
- A teacher with over 15 years of experience teaching in this community.
- Free biannual recitals with no extra fees.
- Real relationships — Sid knows every student by name, by goal, and by musical taste.
We have watched students arrive as shy seven-year-olds who could barely sit still, and walk out of their first recital two years later with a confidence that surprised everyone in the room — including themselves. That transformation is why we do this.
Your First Step — No Obligation
If you live in Metairie, Kenner, or anywhere in Jefferson Parish and you are considering music lessons for your child or for yourself, we would love to hear from you. We are happy to answer questions, help you choose the right instrument, and find a lesson time that fits your schedule.
There is no pressure and no obligation to enroll on the spot. We would rather take ten minutes to answer your questions and make sure we are the right fit than have you sign up for something that does not serve your family well.
