The benefits of singing/voice lessons for your kids!
Let your kids have fun
I wrote this article so that parents can understand that singing can be very natural. With quality instruction they can learn to sing with emotion and have fun. Some of our kids will just sing out, like my 10 year old just belts it out in the shower with no thought of anyone hearing. She’s just having fun and she sounds good. When I was her age I sang my heart out when no one was around. And years later I became a lead vocalist of bands and a Worship leader for a church and now share and teach others how to sing.
The voice is the most amazing instrument. Every other instrument is outside of your body. Every set of vocal cords are like a fingerprint. Each one sounds different. Some singers are really great at copying how a famous singer sounds. That’s amazing too!
Public speaking is a big fear of most of this country. Well, I believe singing in front of a crowd is even more scary for most. But the right training can overcome that and create a child with confidence to win a crowd. Being an entertainer most of my life and dealing with anxiety I’ve learned how to turn the fear into fun.
Music is a Gift
I believe music is a gift from above and a gift we give to ourselves but can be a gift given to others. That’s why Metairie Music Academy has 2 Recitals, performances a year at no extra cost to the student. To promote our students to a higher level of musicianship.
Let’s talk about training for a minute. I use a 3 prong approach. I believe that learning how to breathe is of first importance. With learning how to breathe naturally and deeply will give the voice a better tone and be able to sing higher and longer notes. Just like working out in gym and doing pushups, squats, crunches I believe we need vocal exercises to build the vocal mechanism so the singer can pull off whatever they are asking the voice to do.
Getting quality instruction
Lastly is coaching the student in how to make the words come alive. Just like an actor in a movie we become a vocal actor. Studying their favorite songs and studying the greats and how they did it.
Metairie Music Academy’s mission is to help children learn and appreciate the beauty and the art of music. And share in our community in the heart of Metairie. If you’d like more information, please call 504-421-8811 or use the Request Info button below. Thank you!
I believe music lessons are a great investment in our children, here’s why. As parents, we only get one shot at providing a childhood that determines who our child will become as an adult. Culture today is pulling our children in the wrong direction with gaming, social media and television to name a few. It’s okay in small doses but so many kids spend many hours a day gaming.
There is a instant gratification in games that I believe teaches our children to avoid having to learn commitment. I see many kids today give up as soon as they have a challenge. The skill of commitment. I call it a skill because it can be learned. To see it through until success is achieved. That’s what builds confidence. Not all kids can throw a football like Drew Brees or shoot hoops like Jordan but music can give them an artistic, creative outlet to grow.
Whether it’s piano or guitar or learning to sing it takes more pushing a couple of buttons and blowing something up on a screen. It takes going over the parts of the songs enough times so it starts to sound like music. Learning a musical instrument like guitar, piano or singing takes focus and perseverance.
Performing is a another powerful transforming arena for children to expand their social skills and learn to be in front of others sharing your gift. i believe music is a gift to ourselves and to others. When the kids see this they don’t fear performing, the pressure is off. At Metairie Music Academy we do 2 recitals and rock band performances a year at no cost to you.
I thank all of you moms and dads for investing your time, money and heart in your children by investing in the gift of music! And don’t forget to ask them to learn one of your favorite songs!
