Hi everybody! It's Sid Bardfield here with the latest news for Metairie Music Academy. I'm wishing everyone a Happy New Year! I hope that you are blessed and have a prosperous year in all ways. I want to thank every parent of every child and the adult students for having confidence in me to teach you the art and heart of music. For many music lessons are therapeutic, others are just having fun and others are very serious about playing guitar, piano or their singing skills.
I was amazed at everyone who participated in the December recital. Many great performances. And it was noticeable from the participants in the June recital that there was great improvement. Sometimes we don't see our child practicing and feel like they don't want to do music lessons. But everyone goes through periods where they're not practicing every day for 30 min. I grade progress in 3 ways, Massive, Moderate and Minimal. I call it the 3 M's. Even minimal progress week to week will be great if the student sticks with it for at least a year. When no progress is happening then that has to be addressed.
I've also seen students after a year and a half, 2 years or more start really getting into practice and then start making massive strides on their instrument whether piano, guitar or voice.
I want to share with you about one of my adult students who's been studying guitar with me for about 3 years, Mark Millet. Mark works full time, is on call much of the time, has a family and hobbies but has gotten very good at playing guitar. In the band Southern Voice that I play with I was looking for someone to take my place playing guitar once in a while. After working with Mark for the December recital I was blown away with his rhythm and lead guitar skills and asked him if he would be interested in subbing for me. He said yes, so we've been training all the songs and he will be playing his first professional gig Feb 17.
At Metairie Music Academy our mission is help each student grow their musical skills but also grow as a person. Whether you play piano, guitar or love to sing, music helps every area of your life. Whether it's building confidence or dealing with stress, music is a healer. Looking forward to a great new year! Thanks!
