We’ve invest money and time in our kids Music Lessons so shouldn’t they be getting a good result and play well? Here are few basic ideas so your child’s practice time goes smoothly. We don’t want them agggravated and not wanting to practice.
What’s the practice plan?
If your child’s guitar teacher doesn’t give them a detailed way to practice, that’s a problem. I give 2 to 3 doable skills or ideas each week and suggest the minimim time to practice. So let’s say they are going to pracitce 3 ideas for 5 minutes each. You can have a 5 minute timer ready to go on the phone. So many kids have told me they actually start doing more time. Short 5 minute practices are great.
Don’t forget these!
Be sure they tune up their guitar before they play. If not, they could be playing all the right notes but sound wrong. Make sure they keep their guitar on a stand or mounted on the wall so they can grab and go. If they have to take it out of the guitar case each time, it probably won’t come out as much. Have them use a guitar strap or they will probably be slouching over the guitar.
This is what got me good on guitar fast!
Especially in the beginning or if something is complicated play it in small chunks then move on. A big one is to play it slow enough to play it right. Our fingers can move faster than our brain. Slow it down. That allows you to play it right and play it enough times the right way and it has to sound good, very good! I see students do this process in front of me all the time and have very few mistakes.
Conclusion
Whether it’s guitar lessons, piano lessons or voice lessons, your child should be having fun and learning music skills. They should be better musicians and people after coming out of their lesson than when they went into their lesson.
