Best choice: Acoustic or Electric
So your child wants to play guitar. Now you have to buy them a guitar so they can practice between lessons. The first consideration is how much do you want to spend. Thiis will determine what tp buy. There are entry level guitars that are under $150.
I recommend an electric guitar because the strings are smaller, easier on the hands. The body is much more comfortable and you can get your favorite color.
Acoustic guitars are much harder to play in the beginning. I see kids with beginner guitar lessons make much better progress with electric guitar.
There are less expensive guitars but the quality of these guitars are worth a few pennies more. If you have a higher budget to start then you can just search by price. I try to use local business’s but the Amazon option makes life easy and it will be delivered in no time. That’s hard to beat.
What’s my budget?
What other features should you be looking for? Since the neck of the guitar is in your child’s hands for 100% of the time you want it to be very comfortable. The Fender Squire will have a very comfortable neck. If your child is very young there are Fender mini guitars that will fit them better than the full size guitar.

I’ve helped many students parents over the years to get a good deal on an electric and get started with their music lessons stress free.
Conclusion
Whether it’s guitar lessons, piano lessons or voice lessons, your child should be having fun and learning music skills.
I believe they should be better musicians and better people after coming out of their lesson, than when they went into their lesson
