Music lessons-Is it an expense or an investment in our kids?
I believe music lessons are a great investment in our children, here’s why. As parents, we only get one shot at providing a childhood that determines who our child will become as an adult. Culture today is pulling our children in the wrong direction with gaming, social media and television to name a few. It’s okay in small doses but so many kids spend many hours a day gaming.
Invest in your child’s confidence/creativity
There is a instant gratification in games that I believe teaches our children to avoid having to learn commitment. I see many kids today give up as soon as they have a challenge. The skill of commitment. I call it a skill because it can be learned. To see it through until success is achieved. That’s what builds confidence. Not all kids can throw a football like Drew Brees or shoot hoops like Jordan but music can give them an artistic, creative outlet to grow.
Whether it’s piano or guitar or learning to sing it takes more pushing a couple of buttons and blowing something up on a screen. It takes going over the parts of the songs enough times so it starts to sound like music. Learning a musical instrument like guitar, piano or singing takes focus and perseverance.
Invest in your child’s social skills
Performing is a another powerful transforming arena for children to expand their social skills and learn to be in front of others sharing your gift. I believe music is a gift to ourselves and to others. When the kids see this they don’t fear performing, the pressure is off. At Metairie Music Academy we do 2 recitals and rock band performances a year at no cost to you.
I thank all of you moms and dads for investing your time, money and heart in your children by investing in the gift of music! And don’t forget to ask them to learn one of your favorite songs!
Conclusion
Music lessons should be fun, not time consuming and increase your child’s mental, physical and social skills. This is preparing them for their life ahead.
