The benefits of piano lessons for your kids!
Smart Choices
Today’s kids are overloaded with homework and activities, football, basketball, soccer, cheer just to name a few. Sometimes we have to weigh what activity is the most beneficial for our child. I believe our children should be getting regular weekly physical activity. And just as importantly they should be involved in an activity that is creative and expands their thinking thrown in with some positive socializing.
This is where music lessons come in. Today I’d like to explain specifically about piano lessons and my approach. When you sit behind a piano or electric keyboard you are looking down at the keys. This gives you an aerial view of the keys. You reach out and put your fingers on the keys and when you press the notes down the sound rings out. Pretty simple process.
So children as young as 5 can start to play notes on the piano. A 30 minute lesson once a week can show them around the keyboard and sound great. With continued encouragement kids love learning and being creative, inventive.
How Piano Lessons work
At Metairie Music Academy, we have a simple way to get students playing a song and learning where all the notes are in 30 min. I believe you should learn to play songs first and then learn to read music later. Most children do not want to start playing Bach or Mozart, I’ve asked them. They need to have fun and learn skills to make music and that’s what gives the feeling of accomplishment.
Do I really want to add another activity to my list? I think music lessons is one of the most documented activities that builds intellect, creative thinking and if you run around the piano a couple times a day you can get your heart rate up. If you look at the time factor and cost is reasonable. I recommend one 30 minute piano lesson per week. And if you live in Metairie, La. you’re probably only 10 or 15 minutes away.
2 Recitals a year
Metairie Music Academy holds 2 recitals a year at no cost to you. I love to work with students to learn to enjoy performing in front of family and friends. My mission is to see these children grow up and music become a tradition in your home. What if during celebrations your child could play music like a birthday or Christmas songs so everyone could sing carols? I’ve seen children change the lives of residents at retirement homes or play in church. There are so many possibilities beyond just learning to play for your self. I am still amazed after these years in the effect of music and the power it has to transform!
Conclusion
Piano lessons should be fun and not time consuming and increase your child’s mental, physical and social skills. This is preparing your child for the life ahead.
